Robinson moderates green building roundtable at ULI Houston's Urban Marketplace 2009

HOUSTON, Texas--August 25, 2009--Today, the Urban Land Institute's Houston Chapter hosted in largest yearly event - the Urban Marketplace - with 400+ attendees at the Hilton Americas downtown. This year's theme was "Upward Mobility." The day featured a keynote speech by the former mayor of Pittsburgh, two panels as well as several roundtables. Together, these presentations echoed national conversations & confirmed the industry's focus:

• the scope of urban development has expanded from the project and site level to the district level
• distressed real estate's severity today & over the next five years, &
• green building - when done early, from the top-down, with an experienced team - continues to make more economic sense than conventional construction.

Momentum Bay's founder Mark Alan Robinson was invited to moderate one of the roundtables on the topic of green building. Table participants asked questions about:

• the costs & benefits of green buildings
• how to compete today & in the future when LEED Gold or Platinum or even Living Buildings may be the goal since LEED Certified & Silver seems may soon become the de facto minimum market & regulatory expectation
• how teams can refocus on benefits rather than merely building features & attributes.
